Reiki as Self-Care

Hello everyone! Welcome to 2021 (can’t believe I can even say “2021” without it being a “future” thing… it’s NOW).

Today, I wanted to dive a little bit deeper into REIKI and talk about how it can be used as a self-care tool. In these stressful, scary, uncertain times that we still are finding ourselves in, self-care is more important than ever.

After receiving my reiki 1 and 2 attunements last year, I’ve noticed a profound shift in the way I’m able to approach my self-care rituals when applying reiki (because some days my normal rituals just don’t quite cut it). Not only has it has helped me to elevate my self-care routines, but it’s also been a huge help when it comes to managing my anxiety, so I wanted to share a little more about the benefits reiki can have as a self-care tool with you today!*

*If you’re not quite sure what I’m talking about, you can read more about reiki here and here - but to sum it up, reiki is a form of spiritual energy healing where a practitioner channels universal life force energy to a recipient, typically by placing their hands on or near their body, with the goal of restoring balance to the physical, emotional and spiritual body of the recipient.

The benefits of reiki extend far and wide, and there are both physical and emotional benefits, but today I want to focus more on the emotional benefits, as the goal for our self-care practices is typically to help us better manage our emotions and bring ourselves healing. While everyone will experience reiki differently, and there is no right or wrong way to receive reiki, one can expect to experience any of the following:

Emotional Benefits:

  • Minimizes emotional stress and anxiety

  • Boosts confidence and self-esteem

  • Enhances creativity

  • Elevates your connection to spirit/the Universe/God

  • Heightens your intuition and ability to pick up on the energy of others

So… why does reiki offer these emotional benefits that can enhance our sense of wellbeing and self-care rituals? Because reiki offers us an opportunity to turn inward and listen to the relationship we have with our thoughts, and detach from environmental and material distractions. When we fail to go inward, our mind-body-spirit connection is weakened, if not lost entirely.

But when we do, we can tune in and really listen to what we need when it comes to our wellbeing. Reiki calls in a universal life force energy that is only for the greatest good of the person receiving it and allows important messages to come through. When we pause to listen to ourselves, we’re able to shift from the idea that we’re just a body existing in the physical world to the knowing that our body is so much more than that, that our body shares information with us constantly to tell us what we need to come back into balance… if only we would listen.
